Many people opposed the draft because they though it was unfair to send men to fight an unnecessary war.
Other people thought that the war costed too much and would hurt america- population wise and finically
Some believed that they way we fought in Vietnam was immoral- the methods of war was immoral
It was also unfair because most of the draftees were poor because the middle class and rich would go to college, which delayed them getting drafted. They also got their draft counselors, doctors, and lawyers to give them advise to avoid getting drafted.
African Americans protested because AAs made up 20% of the troop and the AA men only made up 11% of the US population.
the media coverage showed the americans getting killed, so people didn't want to join or have more americans get killed
the tet offense made people wonder if the war was winnable.

On college campuses, professors held "teach-ins". College faculty and students would meet to discuss and learn about the Vietnam War and challenge the government's policies.
Young men all around American protested by burning their draft cards. About 50,000 men did this in front of the Pentagon on October 21, 1967.
Many people protested by having speeches: The free speech movement began in Berkeley in September 1964, set off by the University of California at Berkeley that limited students' political organizing on campus- they would tirade in the public not only about opposition to the war, but all about segregation and women's rights.
Many people also protested by songs. They would write and perform songs opposing the war.

Hippies were members of the counterculture (wanted cultural change) who rejected many American institutions. One of their biggest targets was the Vietnam War, which went agianst their idea of peace, love, and harmony. FLOWER POWER!
